Our 21st Annual Cardinal Classic was a hit!

Nearly 100 La Salle alumni and friends came out to support La Salle in the 21st Annual Cardinal Classic Golf Outing at The Village Club at Sands Point. Much fun was had on the links and at the dinner. Honorees included Frank Grippi, former La Salle board member, and Mauro Lamagna, class of ’56. The event raised over $70,000. The day was a wonderful success thanks to all the attendees, sponsors, and donors.

La Salle Bowling Team starts season with a win!

On Tuesday, September 22, the JV and Varsity Bowling Team played their first match of the season against Msgr. McClancy High School. Both teams defeated McClancy 3 games to 0. Jonathan Glover and Wilfredo Cueto led all scores with a high game of 200. Eric Santana led the JV team in scoring. The next game is Tuesday, where we will face Holy Cross.

Soccer starts their season with a win!

The soccer team won their first game of the season today by the score of 6-2 over St. Edmund’s. Five different players scored goals, including two from Senior Cristian Perez and one from Junior Jayden Lucas, Junior Eduardo Torres, Sophomore Bryan Otavalo and Senior Damiano Nicolosi. It was a very well-played game by all 25 players as everyone got into the game and produced. This brings our record to 1-1 and our next game is Wednesday. Go La Salle!

La Salle and the Special Olympics

Over 50 boys volunteered at the Special Olympics at Randall’s Island, for their Annual NYC Sports’ Championships. The students and faculty were able to meet some of the athletes as well as Neil Johnson, the CEO of the NYS Special Olympics. All were in great spirits on this day of service.

African American Day Parade!

Nearly 30 boys marched in the 46th Annual African American Day Parade with the NAACP. As students and faculty marched along 125th Street, we were announced to much fanfare. One student even snapped a picture with Mayor Dinkins!

San Gennaro Festival Parade

Nearly 30 La Salle students gathered together on Mulberry Street to march in the San Gennaro Festival Parade in Little Italy on Saturday, September 12. Many of La Salle’s staff and faculty, including President, Dr. Catherine Guerriero, and Dean Ray Polanco, both cheered alongside the boys, representing La Salle with great pride.

Microsoft Surface Pro tablets have arrived!

Thanks to the generosity of alumnus James Detura ’74 and his wife Trish, each freshman at La Salle Academy received a brand new Microsoft tablet – a key learning tool in today’s world. The donors, members of the board, faculty, and staff were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony to present the tablets. Words of wisdom and encouragement were shared with the freshmen to empower the new students to enhance their education using this new technology.

A Microsoft team is on campus this week to provide faculty and students with the latest training to enhance the learning experience for every student by integrating the use of tablets in the classroom. Students will be able to explore their education in a unique, creative and innovative way while gaining new skills in areas such as digital literacy, social media, and communication.
