La Salle Academy has established a one-of-a-kind partnership with the prestigious Cooper Union, located just steps away. Every spring and fall, many La Salle students participate in an exciting Lab Series at Cooper Union. For example, a Motorsports Lab Series, taught by a team of Cooper Union undergraduates, showed La Salle students how to design and build race cars. Qualified La Salle sophomores and juniors are invited to attend this prestigious six-week summer program at no charge. La Salle’s partnership with Cooper Union gives students the opportunity to experience hands-on engineering design and development, biomedical and genetic engineering, and more. Students participate in the college’s elite Saturday Program, which focuses on drawing, painting, graphic design, sculpture and architecture. This is one of the many strategic partnerships La Salle Academy has established in the last few years.
Yesterday afternoon, a group of La Salle boys, Daniel Baker in particular, rang the closing bell at NASDAQ. This group of young men joined their mentors from Mentoring USA program, and afterschool program at La Salle Academy. Mentoring USA was founded by La Salle Academy’s dear friend and supporter, Matilda Raffa Cuomo. Check out the pictures from the day and the link to NASDAQ!
On Wednesday, January 13, 2016, La Salle Academy students, faculty and staff welcomed fellow Lasallians from its brother school, La Salle University in Philadelphia. President of La Salle University, Dr. Hanycz, presented to students about what it means to be a leader in today’s world.
After Dr. Hanycz’s engaging presentation, a reception was held in the Joe D’Angelo Literacy Center where students were able to learn more about La Salle University from the Executive Director of Admissions and the Assistant Director of Admissions. The morning was a continuation of the budding partnership between La Salle Academy and La Salle University.
In the finale of La Salle’s first league triple-header, LaSalle’s Varsity Team (11-2, 4-0) defeated Regis 68-57. The Cardinals used strong 2nd & 3rd quarters to build a lead, outscoring Regis 44-24 during those two stanzas. The Cardinals were led by Bryce Council(19points, 6 assists), Reggie Outlaw(15points, 5 steals) and Isaiah Allen-Smith (13 points, 14 rebounds). The Cardinals return to action Wednesday versus Moore Catholic at home. Don’t forget to cheer for the Cardinals!

This year, La Salle Academy hosted its 1st Christmas Tournament for Middle School Teams over the Holiday break. Among the participating teams were St. Charles Borromeo, Tompkins Square Middle School, Simon Baruch, and P.S. 57. After some close games and a strong fight by all, Simon Baruch came out as champions, leaving St. Charles Borromeo in second place, only five points behind. The tournament was a great success and a great opportunity to engage the local middle schools on a high school court! We can’t wait to see who comes out next Christmas!
