Bloomingdale’s Honors MLK Day with Service at La Salle

TCS_3718

This year, Bloomingdale’s chose La Salle as one of their partner sites for their annual MLK Day of Service. Nearly 30 of Bloomingdale’s Corporate Staff spent the day doing service with 10 of TCS_3893our students at La Salle Academy, painting and cleaning in both the school building and La Salle’s Annex building on 2nd Street. These eager volunteers got to work in the morning, cleaning and painting the locker rooms. The group also cleaned out the basement of the Annex building, a job that was a long time coming. They filled up two giant dumpsters with thirty years of garbage. The day was a chance for some of our students to see what it means to TCS_4084serve and work hard. La Salle was blessed to be selected as one of their partners for the day – their staff was superb and hard-working.

In Memoriam: Jim Prendergast ‘48

The La Salle Academy family has lost one of its very best–Jim Prendergast from the class of 1948 passed away on Friday, January 13.

After a stellar career in marketing/advertising on Madison Avenue and as a professor at Baruch College, Jim spent decades as La Salle’s expert point man for our ad and direct mail campaigns and annual appeal efforts. Jim ran La Salle’s Cardinal Classic Golf Outing for the last 20 years, as well as helped coordinate the Dempsey’s Scramble Golf Outing every August since it started more than eight years ago.

Up until his death last week, Jim was still an active member of La Salle’s Development team, providing extraordinary guidance and expertise. He volunteered his heart for a “second career” at La Salle and generations of our boys were helped immeasurably by his efforts.

He will never be able to be replaced, and will be sorely missed.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joy, his children, including son Jim and his wife Lesley, his daughter Kerry, his grandson Devin and his partner Laura.
