Christoph Winkler, Ph.D., Founding Program Director at Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Iona College, will be speaking to Mr. Murphy’s class along with Lisbeth (Lily) Baez, Graduate Assistant at the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. As a well-respected leader in entrepreneurship education, Dr. Winkler has been pushing boundaries and re-envisioning traditional academic practices in higher education. He presently serves on the board of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship® (USASBE), as well as the co-executive editor of the journal Entrepreneurship Education and Pedagogy (EE&P), playing a pivotal role in advancing the field of entrepreneurship education. Dr. Winkler received his Ph.D. in educational psychology from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) and currently holds a joint faculty appointment at Iona College’s School of Arts & Science (Psychology) and the LaPenta School of Business (Management).

Mr. Kevin Shakespeare ’02, Owner of Shakespeare Hospitality Consulting, LLC, will be speaking to Mr. Murphy’s class. Mr. Shakespeare has 20+ years of experience in the hospitality industry. He opened boutique hotels in Brooklyn, turned around high profile rooftop bar concepts in Manhattan and was heavily involved in the planning and execution of all food and beverage outlets for one of the city’s most respected educational institutions. Shakespeare is a member of the Hospitality Advisory Board at Bay State College and has received the distinguished “10 Under 10 Award” from Johnson & Wales University, which is given to the 10 students whom have distinguished themselves with career progression and community involvement within 10 years of their graduation date. He describes himself as an avid lover of food, wine, and all New York sports.

Mr. Murphy’s Economics Class
Ms. Emily Horowitz, Associate Government Relations Manager for the American Heart Association (AHA), oversees a portfolio of AHA’s advocacy priorities including tobacco control, maternal and child health, and nonprofit finance. In this capacity, she manages relationships with Members of Congress and partner organizations. In 2019, Emily successfully lobbied to pass bipartisan legislation raising the federal minimum legal sale age of tobacco from 18 to 21. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, she has been a vocal advocate to ensure nonprofits are included in economic relief packages from Congress and the Federal Reserve.
