TWO LA SALLE ACADEMY SENIORS, OUT OF 1,674 NATIONWIDE, ACCEPTED TO STANFORD AND COLBY THROUGH QUESTBRIDGE NATIONAL COLLEGE MATCH PROGRAM

New York, N.Y., January 5, 2022 – La Salle Academy is pleased to announce that two of its seniors, Abiola Laguda and Joshua Rocamora, were selected out of 1,674 students nationwide as QuestBridge College Match Scholarship Recipients and therefore have been admitted to two of the country’s top colleges on full four-year scholarships. Laguda and Rocamora will attend Colby College and Stanford University, respectively, in fall 2022.

Laguda, Rocamora, and two of their classmates at La Salle were four of the 16,500 students who completed the initial QuestBridge College Match application. Out of the pool of applicants, 6,312 students were selected as finalists, including the four seniors from La Salle. Ultimately, 1,674 high school seniors from across the United States were matched with a school and awarded a full scholarship to attend. While Laguda and Rocamora were the only two students from La Salle to receive a Match Scholarship, the other two finalists still have the option to pursue acceptance at the close to four dozen schools that participate in this program. The fact that they have been vetted via the QuestBridge process enhances the status of their applications.

“Abiola and Joshua worked hard, and with the support of their families and the resources provided by La Salle Academy, earned this national recognition,” said La Salle’s President, Brother Thomas Casey, FSC. “To have two La Salle Academy students merit the status of ‘Match Scholarship Recipients’ when only 1,674 were chosen from across the USA affirms La Salle’s reputation as a rigorous college-preparatory school.”

QuestBridge National College Match is a national program that connects high-achieving high school seniors from low-income backgrounds with full four-year scholarships to top colleges across the country. Match Scholarship Recipients are admitted early to their college match. The Match Scholarship is offered as part of a generous financial aid package provided by the college that covers the full cost of attendance, including tuition, room and board, books and supplies, and travel expenses.
