Art’s Alive at LSA!
Unlike during my time in high school more than a half century ago, New York State now mandates one year of study in visual arts, music, drama, and/or dance as a graduation requirement. A brief rationale for this is recounted in “How the Arts Benefit Your Children Academically and Behaviorally,” an article by Grace Chen published in Public School Review this past September. She cites research which indicates that students involved in the arts “outperformed their peers by a wide margin” and “studies have shown that the arts have a positive influence on student behavior and school climate….”
I am pleased and proud to confirm that art education has a prominent place in La Salle Academy’s curriculum and our men have benefitted from this program for decades! Isaac Duncan III ’92 earned his BFA from University of Notre Dame and now owns Duncan Sculpture & Services, where he creates large scale sculpture and fabrication projects. Jordan Pastor ’13 received his degree in marketing from Sacramento State and is now a frequent attraction at Comic Cons and anime conventions nationwide where he showcases his digital artwork. José Gonzales ’20 matriculated to the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology and is on track to earn his BFA in May 2024.
