WE ARE FAITHFUL!

Our hearts are guided by our faith. Rooted in the Lasallian Catholic tradition and inspired by our school’s patron, Saint John Baptist de La Salle, we are committed to cultivating the faith of all La Salle students.

Through liturgy, community service and education, La Salle’s Office of Campus Ministry encourages spiritual growth and participation in the sacramental life of the Church and Catholic charism of our Lasallian institution. We support the spiritual needs of our students and accompany them as they develop their faith-life.  We provide opportunities for participation in liturgical events, retreats, and community service opportunities, as well as our Lasallian Youth Group.

The Frank and Imelda Moeslein Chapel was established in 2018 and provides students and faculty a true venue for prayer, worship, and reflection within the school building. Smaller-scale Masses are celebrated in our Chapel and school-wide Masses are celebrated in our gymnasium which is transformed into our worship space.

Integral to the mission of the Office of Campus Ministry is community service. Each of our students is required to complete 80 hours of service prior to graduation. Service opportunities are available throughout the year at various organizations and centers throughout New York City. La Salle also has several partnerships with Catholic organizations throughout NYC, including Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, parishes and elementary schools.

Service opportunities on the horizon include assisting those in need, tutoring, the Thanksgiving Food Drive and the Christmas Toy Drive.

“Twinning” is an initiative that pairs middle and secondary schools in our Lasallian world of the United States with 14 ministries in four countries in the Lwanga District of Africa: Kenya, Nigeria, Eritrea and Ethiopia. Our Twin School is The Child Discovery Center in Nakuru, Kenya. We assist them by organizing school-wide fundraising events here at La Salle Academy in New York City, but we also attempt to build relationships as brothers and sisters in the Lasallian family to share challenges, accomplishments, stories and experiences.

Our Lasallian Youth Group gives students the opportunity to gather and be empowered to witness their faith while serving the community throughout the school year. Lasallian Youth members take the Gospel message and put it into action.

This past July, in a “one La Salle” spirit, members of La Salle Academy’s Lasallian Youth Group combined forces with members of the Lasallian Youth Group from San Guiseppe High School in Rome, Italy. Students from San Guiseppe visited La Salle Academy, received a tour, and took part in a Lasallian Acts of Kindness program. This involved conversation, the making of sandwiches and care bags, and a walk through our neighborhood visiting those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.
