It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of La Salle Academy Board Trustee and former faculty member, Brother Ralph Darmento, FSC, who entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 14, 2020.
Brother Ralph was a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and most recently served as Deputy Superintendent of Schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Brother Ralph’s career was vast; he was a teacher, department chair, vice principal and principal at a number of secondary Lasallian institutions and served as an adjunct lecturer at Manhattan College and Seton Hall University. Brother Ralph taught at our own La Salle Academy in Manhattan from 1987-1988 and from 1993-1996. To view a complete list of Brother Ralph’s assignments, click here.
In May 2018, La Salle Academy honored Brother Ralph with the Educator of the Year Award at their 27th Annual Spring Gala. Two of his most impressive honors include the conferring of two papal awards for his service to Catholic education, the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal (1991) and the Bene Merenti Medal (2009).
