La Salle Basketball is Back!
La Salle Academy has one of the richest athletic histories of all the Catholic schools in New York City. After a 20-year skid, the school’s sports program is back and in a big way. Both the freshmen and JV basketball teams captured the CHSAA B City Championships. The varsity team lost in the semi-finals, but was able to win the B Division Regular Season with one of the better records (16-6) in the last 10 years.
Starting off the last week in February strong, the JV played a hard fought game to win the City Championship over Regis 55-47. This is La Salle’s first JV City Championship since 1999. Then the freshmen pulled away with another City Championship title for La Salle over Regis 46-44. Varsity had a wonderful season as well, winning the B Division Regular Season and finishing with a 16-6 record, one of the best records in the last 10 years!
Congratulations to all the Cardinal Basketball Teams, especially Freshmen Coach Jamaal Smith, JV Coach Elvis Peralta, and Varsity Coach Jerome Pannell. Congratulations are also in order for Athletic Director, Raymond Polanco, for leading La Salle Academy’s athletic department to many victories. What a way to end the basketball season this year!
