La Salle Launches the Buckley-Aberer Scholarship
La Salle Academy launched the Buckley-Aberer Scholarship at Alumni Basketball Night on Friday, January 16, to a huge crowd. More than 80 alumni attended to cheer on the Cardinals in a triple-header against Xavier High School and celebrate the storied history of La Salle’s basketball program.
The Buckley-Aberer Scholarship was established in memory and honor of two legendary coaches at La Salle—Dan Buckley ’43 and William C. Aberer ’67. Coach Buckley led the Cardinals to four City Titles in basketball, as well as one City Title in baseball. Coach Aberer amassed more than 500 wins during his 35-year-stint coaching both J.V. and Varsity basketball. More importantly, they will be remembered for their personal commitment to each of their players. Coach was a “Life Coach” to many.
The Buckley-Aberer Scholarship will be awarded to financially disadvantaged students with superior academic achievement and a proven record of leadership. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the Buckley-Aberer Scholarship in its first year of inception.
La Salle President, Dr. Catherine Guerriero, announced the Buckley-Aberer Scholarship at half-time during the Varsity game at half-court. Coach Bill Aberer and Coach Dan Buckley’s daughters attended the event to kick off the scholarship’s fundraising efforts.
