La Salle Soccer Rolls into 2nd Round of Playoffs with Win over Bishop Loughlin
Monday, October 30, 2017, Queens, NY – It took overtime for La Salle Academy to earn the victory, a minute into the extra session, defeating Bishop Loughlin, 2-1 at Juniper Valley Park in the first round of the 2017 CHSAA “B” Soccer Playoffs. The Cardinals (North #4 seed) survived and move into Wednesday’s quarter-final game against Cathedral Prep (South #1 seed).
Ernesto Castelan, saved the day in OT taking a crossing pass from Ricardo Rosas and burying his shot top shelf, dead center for the winner. That goal, his second of the game and 16th of the season, rescued what had been, up until that point, an inconsistent performance by La Salle against the South #5 seed. The first half played without any emotion ended 0-0 without either team being able to sustain any real scoring chances.
In the second half, playing into the wind, Castelan scored his first goal off long ball that he was able to trickle past Loughlin’s goalkeeper into the net. However, the Lions, roared back with a penalty kick that was just hard enough of LSA’s keeper Garcia for the equalizer.
Next Match: Wednesday, November 1st. CHSAA “B” Soccer Playoffs Quarter-Final against Cathedral Prep. The match is set for a 6:00pm kickoff at Aviator Field in Brooklyn.
