La Salle Varsity Basketball Comes Up Short in CHSAA Semi-finals
Tuesday, February 26, 2019, Bronx, NY – Two days after upsetting the top-seeded All Hallows, the Cardinals faced off against #2 seed, Msgr. Farrell on Tuesday night at St. Raymond’s in the Bronx. The Lions from Staten Island would jump out to an early lead throughout the first half before a late run by La Salle would net the Cardinals a one point deficit in what proved to be a low scoring first half for both teams.
The 2nd half was a game of runs with Farrell extending their lead once again but the Cardinals mounting a run to bring the game within reach. Unable to get over the final four point hurdle, the Cardinals would eventually fall 49-45 to a very well disciplined Lions team.
Despite the end result, the Cardinals showed great resilience throughout and were led by Jimmy Romero and Michael Carothers Jr. (10 points each) while Amadou Kouyate added 8 points with Josiah Chandler and Branden Pannell each chipping in 6 points.
We thank our Seniors – Jaden Ault, Josiah Chandler and Jimmy Romero for their efforts and positive representation of our school! We wish them the best of luck as they prepare for graduation and college.
