Running Redbirds at Randall’s Island
On April 21 the La Salle Academy Track team competed in the Fordham Prep Developmental Meet #2, held at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island. The Running Redbirds had their best showing of the season thus far- coming home with 2 relay medals and 4 individual medals. This meet’s standout performer was Senior Tyler Martin, winning an individual medal in the 200 meter dash, placing 3rd in his heat and anchoring the 4×100 meter varsity relay to medals less than an hour later. He was accompanied by fellow seniors Marcel Brown, Adrian Corbin, and fellow medal winner in the varsity 400 meter run, Stephon Riley. The Cardinal Sophomores also won medals in the 4×100 this team consisted of Kyle Kenny, Ryan Baizar, Nelson Millwood, and Victor Cherry. Other medal winners were Sophomore Erik Saavedra in the sophomore 400 meter dash, running a time of 57.4 seconds. This places him on the varsity 4×400 meter relay team. Senior Damien Troncoso placed 3rd overall in the Varsity 400 meter dash. The Track and Field team will be competing again on Monday April 27 at Icahn Stadium in the CHSAA Weight and Novice Intersectional Championship.
