What a Weekend for La Salle!
La Salle’s cardinal red was spotted all over the city this weekend. Beginning the weekend early on Thursday, September 15th, the student council led the procession for the “Blessing of the Stands” before marching in the San Genaro Parade on Saturday on Mulberry Street in Little Italy. Administration and our student body, marched past the zeppoles and sausage and peppers, and paid homage to St. Joseph!
Also on Saturday, further uptown on Randall’s Island, La Salle Academy participated with its partner, the Special Olympics, at their Fall Sports Championships. Dozens of our students helped the athletes in various sporting endeavors, and were blessed for the opportunity.
The next day, our La Salle boys marched in African American Parade in Harlem with the New York State Chapter of the NAACP. Principal Kerry Conroy and our boys marched down the famous Adam Clayton Blvd and celebrated yet another important narrative in our NYC tapestry.
On Sunday, Catholic New York, our Archdiocesan weekly newspaper, led with a gorgeous picture of La Salle’s boys and Brother Anwar Martinez—our Religion Chair and faculty member– on the cover of their annual Back to School Section! The article highlighted La Salle’s surge in applicants and the rise of the school!
La Salle offers many action-based learning and service opportunities. These are just a few that kicked off the school year. La Salle young men represented in many places over the weekend and will continue to do so throughout the year.
